Second life, is basically like playing the Sims but you play with only a character and actually you interact with other people, which at the end are people from the real world. You interact trough Avatars which are a graphic look on "how" supposedly you look like, but apparently that's is not so true as I thought at the beginning.
Apparently there's more than 13 million people registered on the system, which represents more than 13 million people, that could represent clients, contacts, services, etc. For me the advantage of Second Life is the interaction where you can actually speak to other people in a not "face to face" environment, letting you freedom a little bit compared with other platforms. Second life has a own currency which actually can be change to real money (EUR or USD), and you can actually sell, buy rent stuff in this 3D world, and also provide or request services from other users, which open the doors for you as a designer, or even as a professional to provide services to other people around the world and actually get profit from it, letting you increase your possibilities in such a market plagued of competition, as is nowadays, and expanding you horizons to all the corners of the planet.
The popularity of this platform has been increasing, that there's huge companies which are investing in publicity and marketing of different products and services inside the 3D world.
Whit such a big Target and a lot of users, and the connection between a "fake" currency with real money like EUR and USD gives to everyone the possibility to make profit from it, untied from restrictions like countries, barriers, and even time. Is a great opportunity to actually make publicity of your work on different cultural scenes the platform have, and in some way letting you be know by the people around the world, which at the end, is a lot of benefit as a professional in the field of design, isn't it?
Any thoughts?

Hi, you're right, you can use SL for showing your work inside the game, but who will see it? The other players have to come to your location and look on it. So they need direction. You have to 'advertise' yourself and let the people know where you are. There are 2 possible ways to do that: InGame or on the internet. If you advertise InGame, you have to pay some money, the more money (Real Money!) you spend, the more people know about you. If you decide to use the internet to provide you location, why don't put you work directly on that site? Most people will not log into SL if they have the information directly on a website.
ResponderEliminarOn pro point for SL would be the way of "how you present your work". You can show it in a very interesting way in the game, which would not be possible on the web. But this is not easy :)
maybe someone of us will settle to a second life :)
